Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez Teaches Basic Decency in Congress

If you thought bullies were only thriving in high school, you were unfortunately wrong. Apparently the Congress and Senate have a handful of them, like Rep. Yoho, who called a fellow congresswoman a “f***ing b***h”.

I don’t care if you are Republican or Democrat because this is not politics, this is basic ethical behavior. They teach it in preschool, but clearly Yoho didn’t get the memo, proving once more that a college degree or a seat in Congress doesn’t necessarily make you an educated person.

I don’t know what exactly it is that AOC triggers in the Republican party, but this type of behavior from obnoxious white, privileged men needs to stop – now. Thankfully, AOC didn’t let his ignorance and disrespect go and instead made a compelling statement to all Americans – especially to all women and girls. “Dehumanizing language is not new…this is a pattern of an attitude towards women and dehumanization of others. I am here because I have to show my parents that I’m their daughter, and they did not raise me to accept abuse from men.”  Amen, sister!

And that’s what I like about the times we’re living in – that there is no impunity for this type of degrading behavior. Now the Weinsteins, the Epsteins and Yohos of the world don’t have the impunity they used to enjoy not long ago. At last, they are going to be held accountable for their words and actions – or at least exposed. We’re still a long way to becoming a more fair and just society (otherwise Tr*mp wouldn’t be President) but we’re slowly getting there.

To all my fellow females out there, I implore you not to accept any abusive comments from anyone. Stand up for yourself – and if you can’t (sometimes it’s easier said than done), seek assistance immediately. Because the louder our voices are, the smaller our abusers’ powers are.

And to all men out there, please be a gentleman, be kind, and be respectful.
